Wingardium Leviosa is one of the spells first used in Harry Potter: Years 1-4. It was first taught by Filius Flitwick in 1991. It shines purple light when cast.

On October 31, 1991, Filius Flitwick, head of Ravenclaw house, taught his students, among them, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Draco Malfoy, Vincent Crabbe, Gregory Goyle, Susan Bones, Terry Boot, and Hannah Abbott.

Ron tried to levitate 4 boxes with his wand. He wasn't aiming right, however, and unknowingly aimes to the heads of Boot, Bones, and Abbott. He twirled his wand around, and accidentally levitated them, leaving them hanging by two chandeliers. Ron, Harry and Hermione had to help them down from the chandeliers. This obviously brought gales of laughter to the Slytherins, including Malfoy.

Flitwick and McGonagall were not pleased with Ron's accident, and took away 11 points from Gryffindor. Flitwick originally wanted to have 830 points taken away, on account that he was so furious.

When cast, Wingardium Leviosa is amethyst purple.
